March 16, 2018 Kent House, Maraval – Over 100 persons will benefit from the newly installed Bailey Bridge in Sixth Company, Circular Road. This installment was a joint effort between the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government and the Ministry of Works and Transport after an urgent request from the MP for Moruga/Tableland Dr. the Hon. Lovell Francis.

Earlier today, Minister Haji Kazim Hosein joined with MP for Moruga/Tableland Dr. the Hon. Lovell Francis, Chairman Gowrie Roopnarine, Chief Executive Officer Ms. Magdalene Matthews, members of Council and Administration of the Princes Town Regional Corporation as well as residents to commission the Bailey Bridge. This installment represents local government reform taking effect as it provides ease of access for the residents and small businesses throughout Sixth Company, as well as along Hamilton Street, Moruga Road, Hindustan Road and the Naparima Mayaro Road.

Minister Hosein commended the efforts of the Princes Town Regional Corporation saying, “I am very happy to be commissioning this bailey bridge this morning. I would like to thank the very hard-working member of Parliament for Moruga/Tableland Dr. Lovell Francis, Chairman Gowrie Roopnarine and Chief Executive Officer Ms. Matthews for their collaborative efforts to complete this bridge in such a short period of time. We at the Ministry are going into the rural communities with our ‘Wooden Bridges Replacement Programme’ where the technical staff at Head Office have been identifying the wooden bridges in critical condition, especially in rural communities such as these and making the necessary arrangements for them to be replaced. We have completed two similar projects like this one in the Diego Martin region and in Icacos, recently.”

He further added, “We at the Ministry will continue to work together with each corporation to ensure that the people receive the assistance that they need in a timely manner. It is our duty to serve the citizens and we will do so to the best of our capabilities.”
