Municipal Police Service

Coordinated and Effective Approach to Community Safety

With origins dating back to the 1830s and the introduction of the British legal system, the Municipal Police Service boasts a rich history. From Cedros to Toco, these services were established in key villages, each under the guidance of a sergeant, corporal, and two constables. They undertook a variety of roles, from operating horse-drawn fire engines and serving as postmen to impounding feral goats, tasks that continued until the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service was formed in the 1950s.

In 2014, a significant transformation occurred when fourteen (14) Municipal Police Services were amalgamated into one (1) unified organization, officially named the Trinidad and Tobago Municipal Police Service (TTMPS). This consolidation ensured a more coordinated and effective approach to community safety. Today, every Borough, City, and Regional Corporation benefits from the dedicated team of municipal police, working together seamlessly towards creating safer communities.
